Underfoot Laminated Flooring

solid wood flooring hardwood timber flooring south africa

Zimbabwe Teak ( Baikiaea Plurijuga), previously known as Rhodesian Teak and now known as Mukusi, is found only in the Kalahari Sands region of Southern Africa. It produces two distinct colours of timber when sawn and processed:

The Heartwood is chestnut brown in colour and matures to a characteristic rich and attractive dark red.

The Sapwood is pale cream in colour and matures to a delicate pink, blending in with the dark red of the Heartwood. If both Sapwood and Heartwood are combined in the same product, we call the mixture of colours 'Savannah', reflecting, as they do, the light and shade of our Savannah Woodland.

Zimbabwe Teak is obtained from Timber concessions which are strictly controlled by the forestry commission of Zimbabwe in terms of the forestry act. A royalty is levied on all teak logs which are cut at specific volumes to ensure a sustainable yield of Zimbabwe Teak Timber in the long term. Logs are processed in the company sawmills only for Durawood flooring products.

Zimbabwe Teak (Mukusi) has a high resistance to abrasion and is suitable for all flooring applications where strength and durability are required. Hotels, schools, boardrooms, offices, private homes – the timber's attractive appearance combined with its stability and low linear shrinkage factor, makes it long lasting and the ideal choice for the discerning.
